Past Garden Excursions

We’ve got a few photos from some of our previous garden adventures

We love our gardens! Equally so, we love visiting the gardens of other gardening enthusiasts. These adventures are the perfect gateways to ideas, tips and inspiration for our own gardens. Below are just a few examples of photos taken by some of our garden hoppers on past excursions.

The low maintenance, drought tolerant Variegated Century Plant defines this garden. Yellow stripes stretched along blue-green pointed leaves make it a visually stunning accent. After 8-10 years a large fast-growing flower stalk shoots out of it's center. It then dies but at it's base multiple pups emerge to replace the mother in a renewed cycle.

Beautiful but stinky—the stapelia is a master trickster. In it's bid for pollination, the Stapelia masquerades as a delectable food source for blow flies, who love the odour of rotten flesh. The flies are unwittingly deceived into believing the flower is an ideal place to lay their eggs. The little maggots pay the ultimate price and starve. The flower like most desert blooms survives only 2-3 days.

Blue Stick or Blue Finger succulents (Senecio mandraliscae). This succulent typically crawls along the ground creating a dense mat that can hide almost any sin. But isn't it even more dramatic and eye-catching climbing up a tree!
